Beginning Oriental Dance (Belly Dance)
Ninth Street Dance
1920 1/2 Perry St., Durham, NC 27705

*Sundays, 2:45 - 4:00p
Session runs June 8 - Aug. 24
Fee: $140 (12 weeks)

*Thursdays, 6:30 - 7:30p
Session runs June 5 - August 21
Fee: $120 (12 weeks)

Learn traditional Middle Eastern dance movements that have been passed down for generations in this entry-level class. Beginning belly dance is about learning how to connect with your body and spirit. Suitable for all shapes, sizes and activity levels, but you will get a work out! This class will focus on improving flexibility, conditioning the body in order to do the movements properly, and building stamina. You will learn basic belly dance techniques that focus on the core aspects of the dance. Wear comfortable clothes. Pants or shorts are preferred as we will be stretching on the floor. Bring water. Dance shoes, yoga mats and hip scarves are optional.

Fees for most classes must be paid by the first class for the entire session. Fees prorated as session progresses. Signing up for a whole session and attending classes consecutively is strongly encouraged as each class will build upon the previous classes. New students may try one class per session on a complimentary basis. If you decide to enroll, this class will be counted as your first class; payment will be due by the beginning of your second class.
3) OK, I'll throw in a third...I am also a graphic designer and am able to do small-scale graphic design for other small businesses. I have a degree in mass communication and I've been working in the communications/marketing field for 4 years. I've always worked at nonprofits, so I know a thing or two about designing on a tight budget. I have great prices and I will always try to get you more for your money. I know what people want and I know how to make them want it even more when they see your smoking-hot materials!

And if that wasn't enough to get your interest...surprise! I am also an editor and copywriter. I can help you find your angle, write content and then polish it up.

The bottom line:
I charge a base rate of $27 per hour.
Extra images and file types will cost $20 per file. (Example: I only gave you a jpeg and you need the native Photoshop file.)
Travel is extra...$0.49 cents a mile.
I'm in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area and I would like to learn web design.

I have a lot of experience with using Dreamweaver (basic changing text, adding pages, creating links, etc.) and also have a lot of experience creating web design architecture (coming up with the pages, layout, navigation, while the designer makes it happen), but I am now ready to learn design.

I'm very web savvy and a quick learner.

I only know the basics of HTML, but I love it so far.

I would be up for learning how to design using Dreamweaver and/or with backend HTML.

I learn easiest with a combination of reading/self learning and hands-on/instruction, so I would definitely do my studying (I've already started) but I'd like to be someone's apprentice - and get some hands on instruction too.

I can offer payment and/or bartering as well. I am a writer and social media marketer for barter.

Hi All, come on out to a hoop dancing workshop taught by the beautiful and talented, Patika Starr. Ladies are welcome to join us. Here are the details...Let me know by sending a private message if you want to come!

Hooping is sexy and is an amazing form of exercise. It can also be meditative and is a wonderful way of creatively expressing yourself. With fast music, hooping provides a great cardio workout and burns fat. Hooping targets core strength, but is a great toner for the whole body. The best thing about hooping is its fun!

In Patika's beginners hoop workshop, we'll explore the fundamentals of hoop dance and go over the basics. Using adult sized hoops you will learn to keep the hoop up, how to move with the hoop, off body hooping, angle hooping, lifting the hoop off your body and other impressive tricks. We will then apply all that we've gone over to dance- hoop dance! Patika will include in the class a short hoop dance performance to give you an idea of where you can take your hooping. The class is 2 hours long and their will be an additional break in between hours and a performance at the end.

What to Bring: Please bring $30.00 for the class (cash please) water, sun block, a hoop (if you have one), and a smile!

What to Wear: Dress in clothes that are tighter fitting and will allow you to move. It is best if the fabrics you wear are not slippery (like shiny lycra). Cotton is a great fabric. Hoops stick best to skin. We recommend wearing sleeveless or short sleeve shirts and shorts or a mini skirt (one that allows you to move).

What will be provided: There will be hoops that you can use in class and some to sell. There cost is $35.00. If more hoops are required than I have to sell, you may special order them.

Spread over these two neighboring venues on Hillsborough Street, the Eccentrik Festival will feature a full day of live music in the Brewery and vendors, artwork, and DJs in the Cantina, with poi (fire-spinning) in the driveway between the two. A burlesque troupe will be featured during one of the DJ sets.

Razed In Black will headline the festival, bringing their blend of hard industrial, coldwave, futurepop and metal to North Carolina for the second time ever.

More Machine Than Man is a multimedia fetish/cyber-goth project featuring performance art as well as guitar-driven industrial dance music.

Opening the live music aspect of the festival will be Raleigh-based electronic duo RJE, an ongoing side project from members of Nomad Project A.V. and enc0der.
Haitian Hate Gods, a self-described industrial funk band out of North Carolina, features female vocals. The band’s sound blends driving industrial floor-stompers and soulful slow numbers.
Clockwerk fuses elements of both dark ambient noise and aggressive industrial experimentalism. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based trio are inspired by bands such as Clock DVA, Front 242, and Skinny Puppy.

Raleigh’s own Threshold 6 is a dark electronic band whose sound ranges from fast-paced and danceable to slinky and seductive.
